Debbie Pekel is the Head Women’s Soccer Coach at New College of Florida. She comes to NCF from being the full-time assistant coach at DIII Bob Jones University. She helped the Bruins attend their third straight NCCAA DI National Tournament appearance in 2022.
Prior to BJU, Coach Pekel was the Associate Head Coach for the UWS League 1 Muskegon Risers. Pekel was also the Head Coach for the Risers’ Women’s Arena Soccer Team that was independent in 2021-2022. While in Michigan, Coach Pekel was the Head Varsity Coach at Western Michigan Christian High School where in her first season the Warriors were Conference Champions. She had three All-State players awarded for the 2021-2022 season. Pekel also coached at Michigan Rangers FC, a club in Grandville, MI. She was the Head Coach for five girls teams (2014s, 2012s, 2011s, and 2010s).
Coach Pekel played 4 years at Grace Christian University (NCCAA) in Grand Rapids, MI. There she was a dual-athlete. She led the program in assists, goals, and to their first national championship game in 2016 as a senior. She was the first women’s soccer player awarded 1st and 2nd All-American, along with being a 4x First Team Regional Player, 3x Captain, and the 2016 Mideast Regional MVP.
After her playing career, Pekel started coaching Girls Varsity at two local high schools; Tri-Unity Christian & Byron Center. She joined Grace Christian as an Assistant Coach in 2017 and became a Graduate Assistant at University of Pikeville (NAIA) from 2018-2020. Pekel has also coached club in California and KYSA ODP.
Coach Pekel holds her USSF C License and is finishing up her USC Advanced National Diploma in June. She was one of 15 female coaches chosen for the prestigious USC 30U30 group for 2021-2022.
